My social media experiement, or can social media help me get a job

As I begin the month of May I find myself in a all to familiar situation, Back on the job market.

With all the hype of social media, your network, your connections Etc, it is time to put it to the test.

Lets see how good all this is at finding employment.  My linked in Profile has my latest information.

So they say the best jobs are not posted on career sites, (I am using all the big ones) but are found through networking.

Bring it on

13 Years later, I found my code

I was at a client this past week and they showed my how they were integrating Lotus notes and their MS exchange mail. I told them that I had wrote some code to do this years ago and had posted it in the sandbox. The client said "I downloaded this code from the sandbox". They were creating tasks and calendar entries in the ui then saving them to Outlook.

He showed me the db and wouldn't you know it was my old code from 1998. Still working today.

Made me feel good that something I shared way back when was still helping people.

Been too long

So been pretty quiet around here lately. Lots going on.

Will be going to Lotusphere this year, Did not get picked to speak. But I will find a place to do the session With my colleague John Kingsley, possibly Skilug, or one of the other Lugs out there. The title is "Where did that come from". all about managing your applications in your Lotus Domino environment. It will be a lot of fun.

Now for the good news. I got my IBM Advanced instructor certification for Application Development and System Administration. This is something I have wanted to do for a while so in August I stopped procrastinating and went for it. I love training and teaching so this was a must for me.

Will be busy between now and Lotusphere, but I will try to post something useful before then.

Cool website of the day (Non Notes related)

I was looking for a good mp3 tagging tool and the general thought was the old version of Musicmatch jukebox was great. Before Yahoo took it over and ruined it (Remember my opinion) so I searched just to see and came upon this site Olderversion.com It holds older versions of a lot of cool freeware. Check it out. As they say, "Newer is not always better"

What I wanted to be when I grew up or what I went to school for and now I do Notes

A while ago some colleagues and myself were discussing our backgrounds and some interesting points came up. The Lotus Notes space seems to have a lot of degrees other than Computer Science related. I for one am am perfect example. I went to school for Culinary arts. Yes I wanted to be a chef when I grew up!

I know of a master cabinet maker who is a fantastic Admin. I know another person who studied to be an archeologist. So who has the most offbeat education? Spread the word this could be a fun discussion

Chef John

Busy Busy Busy

Been busy at the day job traveling to Calgary Alberta Canada last week.
Had some Notes 8.5 weirdness while I was up there and again today.

The client ui (Eclipse) Looked as though it was loading. I would even get new mail notifications and calendar alerts, but the client UI never came up. I would click on the new mail icon in the windows task bar and it would disappear. Only way to fix the problem was to completely remove and re-install 8.5. Now today's issue was caused by a plug-in not updating successfully I think. I need to watch it more to see if it is the case.

One thing I have been hearing consistently is that new developers do not know where to go to learn about Domino/Notes. Yes training would help them, but these days no one has budget for that. So over the next few posts I will be gathering all of the links, sources, references, ETC that would be helpful and present them here. If there is anything specific you would like to see please respond here and let me know.

The weekend is almost here!!!!!
